Early Warning — Risk Reduction

Purpose

The Contractor and PM cooperate in considering how to reduce the effects of a matter notified as an early warning. Proposed solutions are recorded.

Practical Application

Early warnings shift the focus from blame to collaborative risk management. Use meetings to identify mitigation measures that reduce time and cost impacts.

Common Pitfalls

Proposing solutions at an early warning meeting does not constitute acceptance of cost liability. Each party retains their contractual rights regarding the underlying event.
